Limewire No Longer Available: Shutdown by Federal Court

One of the most popular file sharing site used by most users here in the Philippines to download music has already been taken down by federal court. According to reports, LimeWire has been permanently shut down after a federal judge found it guilty of assisting users in committing copyright infringement “on a massive scale.” The cease-and-desist order was issued last Tuesday by a New York judge causing LimeWire to immediately close its doors.

The injunction states that LimeWire’s software is used “overwhelmingly for infringement” and allows for infringement on a “massive scale.” It also states that LimeWire “intentionally encouraged direct infringement” by users and marketed its software to Napster users, who were “known copyright infringers,” by promoting LimeWire’s infringement capabilities.

Although there are still P2P sharing sites like isohunt.com that are still active and are being used in downloading movies and music files but Limewire software has been the most used and most accessed by Pinoy users who want to download music.
